Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis
If you continue to suffer from frequent cases of bacterial vaginosis there are steps you can take to make it less likely for it to occur again in the future. Bacterial vaginosis or BV is a very common condition in women, it has been known to affect as many as 30 to 35 percent of all women some time during their lives. Unfortunately, once you have it you are more likely to have the condition again.
BV occurs when there is an imbalance of bacteria in the vagina and an overgrowth occurs. This can change the acidity levels of the vagina. It can be caused by a number of factors but it is also true that you may never know what caused your particular case of bacterial vaginosis. Some common causes are intercourse without a condom, frequent douching, or even poor hygiene.
To cure chronic bacterial vaginosis you will first want to be absolutely sure that you are getting treatment for the correct disorder. BV has similar symptoms as other problems so you will want to be sure that you see a doctor for a correct diagnosis. Even though BV can be an irritating condition and is not serious, you do not what to be treating this disorder only to find out that you actually have something that is serious.
Some things you can do to make it less likely that BV comes back or becomes chronic is to first of all stop douching if that is something that you do. You will also want to stop using any types of lubricants and use a condom during intercourse even if you already have another form of birth control. If you are on the pill for birth control you may want to consider switching it or using a different form of birth control all together. The hormone changes that occur with birth control pills can sometimes lead to bacterial vaginosis.
Your doctor may also prescribe you with an antibiotic to clear up BV. This should work but sometimes doesn’t work effectively if your condition is chronic and continues to come back. In these cases you may want to consider natural remedies.
